There’s something truly special about Block Island in the off season. This past weekend was everything we needed—low key, peaceful, and completely rejuvenating. We stayed in our favorite room, The Arthur, at the 1661 Inn, and it once again reminded us why we keep coming back. Between the fireplace, the amazing hot tub, and the insanely cool shower with 12 shower heads, it felt like our own private retreat from the world.
We spent our days taking in the scenery, walking the beaches, and just slowing down—no agenda, no rush. We played the Great Game, which led us to explore parts of the island and discover some new sights we might have otherwise missed—one of our favorite ways to experience Block Island. One of the best parts was hanging out with some locals, sharing stories, laughs, and that easy island vibe that only exists when things are quiet and authentic.
Saturday night we headed to The Yellow Kittens for a Jamaican fundraiser, and it ended up being such a fun, unexpected highlight. Great local musicians, good energy, and a strong sense of community—it was the perfect off-season island night.
Dinner at The Barn at the Spring House was a highlight (as always). The food was absolutely delicious—thoughtful, comforting, and perfectly suited for a cozy winter weekend on the island. We also made sure to visit the Lobster Pot Christmas Tree and checked each night for the Block Island Glass Float—adding a little fun, tradition, and adventure to our evenings.
On our last day, we were treated to something truly magical—snow on Block Island for the first time. Seeing the island blanketed in white, the beaches, bluffs, and quiet roads transformed, was absolutely breathtaking and felt like the perfect, peaceful send-off.
Most of all, it was an amazing time with my hubby. Getting away together, unplugging, and simply enjoying each other’s company is our favorite thing to do. Block Island gives us the space to do just that.
The staff at the 1661 Inn are incredible—welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind, which makes the whole experience even better. Weekends like this remind us how important it is to pause, reconnect, and soak in the beauty around us.
Off-season Block Island… you have our hearts. ![]()
